Current research projects
To understand protein self-organization, we work on cellular processes from prokaryotic as well as eukaryotic cells.
Specifically, the research in our group is centered around two general research questions:
Bacterial cell division:
We are using in vitro reconstitution to understand the mechanisms of bacterial cell division.
Small GTPase networks:
We rebuild the signaling systems of small GTPases to understand how they generate spatiotemporal order.
Both research directions benefit from our strong expertise in protein biochemistry, biomimetic membrane systems, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis.
